Seizure
As a body of work, ‘Seizure’ was presented at Newcastle Art School as a part of a graduation exhibition in 2022.
Based on the confronting themes of Epilepsy, I depict an interpretation of the confronting acts of witnessing a seizure as a bystander. Using my personal experience with diagnosed Epilepsy, this work visually depicts the vulnerability of the victim and loss of autonomy during a seizure, and the well-intentioned but uneducated attempts of a bystander to ‘play doctor’ to help the victim through the horrifying reality they witness, without truly knowing what to do.
I use my own experience both in the position of the seizing victim, and a bystander to others, to highlight and educate on the well-known but ill-educated neurological disorder.
